At St Mary’s Infant school our intent is to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that will inspire, enthuse and educate our children so they learn knowledge and skills that will help them prepare for life in modern Britain. During their time with us, from Reception to Year 2, we aim to foster a love of learning, a natural curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. Good social skills and very high standards of behaviour are vital in creating happy children who are keen and active learners
We implement this through the planning and delivery of exciting topics and excellent teaching. Planning is linked directly to the National Curriculum 2014 and the interests, experiences and backgrounds of the children.
The impact is measured through teachers assessments of the children’s knowledge and understanding. From this sequences of lessons are planned, within overviews ,to ensure teaching is tailored to the needs of the class and individuals.
Throughout the year the school will use enrichment activities to support and enhance the Curriculum. This may be linked directly to topic work, link into WOW day or local/national events. Sometimes events take place to widen and broaden the children’s experiences or may be to help them develop key life skills.
