Forest School encourages the development of children’s emotional and physical development through outdoor play, activities and exploration. Originally a concept developed in Denmark, children attending Forest Schools were found to have developed strong social skills and generally had high self-esteem and confidence in their own capabilities.
The children are encouraged to explore appropriately managed risky play, which will increase their confidence in managing risk and their own limits and boundaries. We allow children time to explore their feelings, thoughts and relationships at Forest School, which in turn creates an understanding of the world and their environment.
Most activities are child-led, which allow the children to investigate and problem solve enabling independence and self-motivation. In addition, there will be opportunities for den building, scavenger hunts, use of tools, relaxing in hammocks, story-telling, bug hunting and creative woodland activities. All of which provide a greater understanding of their environment and connection with the natural world.
All activities are risk assessed and led by a level 3 certified forest school practitioner.
