Leadership Roles

In 2020/21, we introduced new Leadership Roles for the children, which enabled them to share their pupil voice and those of their peers, as well as show respect for each other and our world.  These are very important roles in shaping the direction of our school.  The roles available are:

Eco-Warrior
House Captain
Pupil Parliament
Worship Acolyte

Children are given the opportunity to apply for any of the 4 roles.  They can only hold one position and the role lasts an academic year.

In order to be elected, a child must make a short ‘speech’ to their classmates as to why they should be chosen and the class then vote anonymously.

For the roles in Pupil Parliament, Eco-Warriers & Worship Acolytes, 2 children per class are elected.

Each House has a captain elected from a Year 2 class.

Eco-Warrior

Being a St Mary’s Eco-Warrior offers pupils the exciting opportunity to develop leadership skills, to positively impact our school’s eco-footprint and to improve the lives of all within our wider school community.   Our Eco-Warriors become more aware of our local wildlife and build a conscientious and responsible attitude towards protecting it.  We work together each …

House Captain

Every child in the school is placed into a ‘House’ team – Rowan, Sycamore, Hazel, Horse Chestnut or Oak – and they earn house points by displaying one of 12 learning behaviours. House teams encourage children to support each other and work as a team, not as individuals.  The team with the most points earned …

Pupil Parliament

Being part of the Pupil Parliament promotes pupil leadership  opportunities, enabling children to develop valuable communication, organisation and debating skills through key roles of responsibility and new experiences.    Pupil Parliament benefits the whole school; pupils and teachers because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their opinions as well as influence the decisions that are …

Worship Acolyte

The role of Worship Acolyte allows the children to take an active role in delivering worship and feeding back evaluations of worship on behalf of the rest of the class.  They are responsible for helping to share and teach the vision, values and mission of the school to others. They are also an essential part …
